Supplying the item is the easy part. What decides whether a laboratory keeps running is everything either side of it — the specification before, the documentation with, the commissioning after, and the spares two years later.

Application selection & specification

Choosing between two instruments, or between four grades of the same solvent, is a technical decision that usually gets made on price because nobody explained the difference. We read the method and the standard, size the capacity against your throughput, and tell you where a specification is doing no work. If you are writing a tender, we will review the technical schedule before it goes out — that is cheaper for everyone than a re-tender.

With every consignment

Documentation

The paperwork is half the purchase for a regulated laboratory. Safety Data Sheets ship with every chemical consignment and are available on request beforehand. Certificates of Analysis are batch specific — quote the batch number from the label and we will retrieve it. For instruments, test and conformity certificates come from the manufacturer, and we tell you before you order what will and will not be included.

Installation & commissioning

Heavy instruments need site work before they arrive, not after. Compression testing machines need a level grouted foundation; ductility baths need drainage; furnaces and autoclaves need dedicated supply and often extraction. We issue the foundation drawing and utility schedule with the quotation so the civil work runs in parallel with the delivery lead time. Commissioning includes a functional run against the test standard, not just a power-on check.

Calibration & qualification

Calibration is arranged through NABL-accredited laboratories under the relevant scope — Thermal, Mass, Force, Pressure, Dimension, Volume or Electro-technical. We state the accrediting laboratory, the scope and the certificate number on the quotation, because a calibration certificate outside the accredited scope is not what your assessor is asking for. For pharmaceutical customers we arrange IQ, OQ and PQ execution with chamber mapping and recovery studies.

Maintenance & spares

Two tiers, and we will tell you which one actually fits. An AMC covers scheduled preventive visits, labour and travel, with spares billed separately. A CMC includes spares — worth it on instruments with consumable wear parts, poor value on instruments without them. Fast-moving spares for common instruments are held: proving rings, dial gauges, load cells, sensors, controllers, moulds, sieves and glass thermometers.

What we arrange versus what we hold.

Worth being precise about, because suppliers in this trade routinely blur it. Calibration and qualification are performed by accredited laboratories and by manufacturers' engineers — we arrange, coordinate and stand behind the delivery, and we name who did the work on the certificate.
