Worth knowing before you order

This is the field version of the bench turbidity meter, and the two differ in the numbers that matter: the portable is specified at ± 3% and tops out at 1100 NTU, while the bench model reads to 2000 NTU at ± 5%. Anything above 1100 NTU has to be diluted, which brings its own error. Unlike the bench model, the measuring principle is stated plainly — nephelometric, 90° — but no published turbidity method is cited on the page. Three formazin standards (200, 500 and 1000 NTU) come with it and the 0.02 and 10 NTU low points do not; formazin has a shelf life. The vial optical surfaces decide the reading, so the supplied wiping cloth and clean, matched vials matter as much as the meter. It runs on 3 AA cells and carries no separate battery-life figure on this page.
