Worth knowing before you order
The most important number for this test is not on the instrument. BOD5 is defined as a five-day incubation in the dark at 20 ± 1 °C, and there is no incubator inside this unit - the 20 ± 1 °C working temperature row is a requirement placed on the room, not a capability of the analyser. A BOD incubator or cooled cabinet able to hold 20 ± 1 °C for five days is a separate purchase and the result is not defensible without one. Second, the range is set by sample volume, not by a switch: 500 ml of sample reads 0-20 mg/L and 25 ml reads 0-4000 mg/L, so the operator has to estimate the strength of the effluent before starting or lose five days. Six bottles per run has to cover the samples, the blank and any check standard. Consumables to budget: alkali (KOH or NaOH) for the CO2 trap, glucose-glutamic acid check solution, and nitrification inhibitor - none of which is listed as supplied. If what you need is a same-day answer, a COD analyser digests in two hours and measures a different quantity.Specification
| Parameter | BOD |
|---|---|
| Measuring principle | Differential pressure (manometric): micro-organisms consume oxygen and liberate CO2, which is absorbed by the alkali, and the resulting vacuum is read directly in mg/L |
| BOD range | 0-4000 mg/L |
| Number of sample measurements | 6 |
| Volume of container | 580 ml |
| Measurement period | Measurement days 1-30 days |
| Working temperature | 20 ± 1°C |
| Accuracy check | Qualified for BOD5 (glucose-glutamic acid standard solution BOD5 = 180-230 mg/L) |
| Sample volume selection | 500 ml for 0~20 mg/L; 450 ml for 0~40; 400 ml for 0~80; 300 ml for 0~160; 200 ml for 0~320; 100 ml for 0~800; 50 ml for 0~2000; 25 ml for 0~4000 |
| Reading during test | BOD value of the current test can be read at any time during or after the 5-day incubation |
| Data management | Data storage of 10-year BOD5 result value |
| Display | Backlit display with date and time |
| Machine dimension (L x W x H) | 272 x 185 x 75 mm |
| Packing dimension (L x W x H) | 495 x 420 x 225 mm |
