Thickness Gauge for Geotextiles and Geosynthetics
Dead-weight presser-foot gauge that reports geosynthetic thickness at a defined pressure — the figure every permittivity and transmissivity calculation is normalised against.
Typical applications
- Nominal thickness of woven, non-woven and needle-punched geotextiles
- Thickness input to permittivity and transmissivity calculations
- Incoming quality control against a stated nominal thickness
Conforms to
- ASTM D5199—Measuring the nominal thickness of geosynthetics
- EN ISO 9863-1—Geosynthetics — Determination of thickness at specified pressures — Part 1: Single layers

Worth knowing before you order
The one decision here is whether you need the higher pressure stages. A compressible non-woven measured at 2 kPa and at 200 kPa gives two very different numbers, and if your client writes to EN ISO 9863-1 with a 20 kPa or 200 kPa clause, a gauge supplied with only the 2 kPa weight cannot close it out. The supplier panel prints no weight set, no foot diameter and no dial range, so tell us the pressures in your specification and we will confirm the set against them.Specification
| Determines | Nominal thickness in millimetres, at a stated pressure |
|---|---|
| Reference pressure | 2 kPa — the pressure both standards report at by default |
| Additional pressures | EN ISO 9863-1 also reports at higher specified pressures, commonly 20 kPa and 200 kPa, which needs the extra weight set |
| Presser foot | Circular foot of stated area. A thickness reading without the foot area and the pressure beside it is not a result |

Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size
The graded glass beads and separating sieves that the dry-sieving apparent opening size method consumes — the part of an AOS rig that is bought again, not once.
IndentASTM D4751Purpose: Supplies and re-separates the graded spherical glass beads that ASTM D4751 Method A1 sieves through the specimen
Specification for Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size
Specification for Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size Purpose Supplies and re-separates the graded spherical glass beads that ASTM D4751 Method A1 sieves through the specimen Why it is a separate line Beads are lost and fractured in use, and a fraction that has drifted out of grading quietly biases every O95 result taken with it Re-separation Beads are recovered and re-graded on the separating sieves between runs Services Spares & consumables Standards

- Apparent opening size determination on geotextiles
- Re-grading of recovered bead fractions between test runs
