Geotextile Universal Testing Machine
Universal testing frame supplied with the five fixtures the ASTM geotextile methods call for — grab, index puncture, CBR puncture, trapezoid tear and wide-width tensile.
Typical applications
- Roads, bridges and tunnel construction
- Water conservancy works
- Erosion control
- Soil stabilisation
- Slope stability
- Thermal insulation
- Filtration, drainage and separation
Conforms to
- ASTM D4632/D4632M—Grab breaking load and elongation of geotextiles
- ASTM D4833/D4833M—Index puncture resistance of geomembranes and related products
- ASTM D6241—Measuring static puncture strength of geotextiles and geosynthetic-related products using a 50 mm probe
- ASTM D4533/D4533M—Trapezoid tearing strength of geotextiles
- ASTM D4595/D4595M—Tensile properties of geotextiles by the wide-width method

Worth knowing before you order
No load capacity is printed on the flyer, and capacity is the one decision that cannot be changed later. A wide-width tensile test on a high-strength geogrid needs far more force than a grab test on a light non-woven, so tell us the heaviest product in your range and we will size the frame, the load cell and the grips against it in writing.Specification

Apparent Opening Size Tester for Geotextiles
Sieve shaker set up for the dry glass-bead method that fixes a geotextile's apparent opening size — the O95 figure a filtration design is checked against.
IndentASTM D4751Determines: Apparent opening size, reported as O95 in mm under ASTM D4751; characteristic opening size O90 under EN ISO 12956

Geotextile Permeability Apparatus (Permittivity)
Constant and falling head apparatus for water flow normal to the plane of a geotextile, giving the permittivity figure a drainage or filtration layer is specified on.
IndentASTM D4491/D4491MDetermines: Permittivity in s⁻¹ and the flow rate through the fabric normal to its plane
Specification for Geotextile Permeability Apparatus (Permittivity)
Specification for Geotextile Permeability Apparatus (Permittivity) Determines Permittivity in s⁻¹ and the flow rate through the fabric normal to its plane Heads Constant head and falling head, both described by ASTM D4491 EN ISO reporting EN ISO 11058 reports a velocity index — the flow velocity at a 50 mm head Water condition De-aired water. Dissolved air comes out of solution against the fabric and changes the reading, so a de-airing tank is part of the rig, not an accessory Services Installation & commissioning · Calibration · Spares & consumables Standards
ASTM D4491/D4491MEN ISO 11058Typical applications
- Filtration and drainage design for geotextiles
- Subsurface and edge drainage specification
- Erosion control and revetment underlays

Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size
The graded glass beads and separating sieves that the dry-sieving apparent opening size method consumes — the part of an AOS rig that is bought again, not once.
IndentASTM D4751Purpose: Supplies and re-separates the graded spherical glass beads that ASTM D4751 Method A1 sieves through the specimen
Specification for Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size
Specification for Glass Bead Set and Separating Sieves for Apparent Opening Size Purpose Supplies and re-separates the graded spherical glass beads that ASTM D4751 Method A1 sieves through the specimen Why it is a separate line Beads are lost and fractured in use, and a fraction that has drifted out of grading quietly biases every O95 result taken with it Re-separation Beads are recovered and re-graded on the separating sieves between runs Services Spares & consumables Standards
ASTM D4751Typical applications
- Apparent opening size determination on geotextiles
- Re-grading of recovered bead fractions between test runs
Geotextile Abrasion Tester (Sliding Block)
Loaded sliding block that abrades a geotextile against abrasive paper for a set number of cycles, so the retained strength after installation damage can be measured.
IndentASTM D4886Determines: Retained strength after abrasion, as a percentage of the unabraded value
Specification for Geotextile Abrasion Tester (Sliding Block)
Specification for Geotextile Abrasion Tester (Sliding Block) Determines Retained strength after abrasion, as a percentage of the unabraded value Principle A weighted block carrying abrasive paper is reciprocated over the clamped specimen for a counted number of cycles The result needs a second machine The abrader damages the specimen; the number comes from a tensile test on it afterwards. Budget for both Consumable Abrasive paper of the grade the method specifies, replaced between specimens Services Installation & commissioning · Calibration · Spares & consumables Standards
ASTM D4886EN ISO 13427Typical applications
- Installation damage assessment for geotextiles under aggregate
- Durability comparison between candidate fabrics
- Retained-strength clauses in geosynthetic specifications
