Gradient PCR Thermal Cycler, 96-Well

Gradient thermal cycler for amplifying DNA and RNA, running a row of different annealing temperatures across the block so a primer pair can be optimised in one run.

Typical applications

  • End-point PCR
  • Annealing temperature optimisation
  • Gene expression analysis
  • Genotyping
  • Pathogen detection
  • Template preparation for DNA sequencing

Worth knowing before you order

A thermal cycler is bought on three things — block format, ramp rate and gradient range — and only one of them survives this scan cleanly. The maximum ramping rate is printed, 6 °C/s, and that is the figure that sets run time. The block format is 96-well, taken from the model designation and from the 96-position plate layout on the instrument's own screen; there is no legible specification row confirming it, and the tube format the block accepts is not stated at all. The gradient span is nowhere legible, and it is the figure a gradient cycler exists for: a wide span brackets an unknown annealing temperature across a single plate, a narrow one only confirms a guess you have already made. Ask in writing for the gradient range, the block temperature range, the hot-lid range, the block uniformity and the tube format before ordering. Finally, the catalogue reproduces screen images carrying entered run values such as lid temperature and reaction volume — those are somebody's example file, not the instrument's limits, and none of them have been copied into the rows above.
