Krebs Viscometer for Paints, Coatings and Inks

Stormer-type rotating-paddle viscometer that reads paint consistency directly in Krebs units, with the equivalent load in grams and a centipoise value also shown.

Typical applications

  • Architectural and industrial paints
  • Coatings and primers
  • Printing inks
  • Incoming goods and batch release checks

Conforms to

ASTM D562
  • ASTM D562Consistency of paints measuring Krebs unit (KU) viscosity using a Stormer-type viscometer

Worth knowing before you order

The 10 to 40 °C row is the ambient range the instrument itself will work in — it is not sample temperature control, of which there is none. Krebs readings move with paint temperature and the method calls for the sample to be brought to a stated temperature before the paddle goes in, so budget for a conditioning bath or cabinet alongside the instrument. Treat the centipoise scale with care: Krebs units are a paint-trade scale tied to this paddle geometry and this speed, and the conversion to centipoise is only strictly valid for a Newtonian liquid, which most paints are not.
