Overhead Stirrer, 20 L, 10000 mPa·s

Motor-driven overhead stirrer on a stand, for batches up to 20 L and for liquids too viscous for a magnetic follower to keep turning.

Typical applications

  • Mixing viscous solutions, gels and slurries
  • Suspension and emulsion preparation
  • Polymer and resin blending
  • Large-batch dissolution up to 20 L

Worth knowing before you order

This is the answer to the one question that separates the two families of stirrer. A magnetic stirrer drives a free follower through the vessel base, and as viscosity rises the follower loses coupling and stops turning while the controller still reads its set speed - the batch simply stops being mixed and nothing on the panel says so. An overhead stirrer drives a shaft and paddle directly, so it keeps working; the catalogue rates this one to 10000 mPa·s in 20 L. It prints no torque figure, and torque is what actually decides whether a given paddle will turn in a given medium, so ask for it before ordering. One mixing paddle, the stand with extension, holding shaft, clamp, base plate, chuck key and spanner are supplied; other paddle geometries - anchor, propeller, turbine - are separate items and they are what set the flow pattern.
