Probe Sonicator, 650 W, Acoustic Enclosure with Remote Sample Lift

Ultrasonic probe processor in a lit, UV-equipped acoustic enclosure whose sample stand is raised and lowered by remote control, so the cabinet stays shut while the probe depth is set.

Typical applications

  • Cell and tissue disruption
  • Emulsification and dispersion
  • Extraction from solids
  • Nanoparticle dispersion
  • Sample preparation for infectious or aerosol-generating material

Worth knowing before you order

The electrical end of this unit is the same 650 W, 20 to 25 kHz generator as the plain touch-screen model; what the extra money buys is the cabinet — a remote-controlled sample lift that lets you set the probe depth without opening the door, a built-in lamp and a UV cycle. That is worth having for infectious or aerosol-generating work, where opening a running enclosure is precisely what you want to avoid. Everything else about probe sonication still applies: the horn goes into the liquid and cavitation dumps heat into a small volume, so work in an ice bath and pulse rather than run continuously; an unhoused horn at this power is loud enough to damage hearing; the titanium tip erodes into the sample and needs re-facing or replacement; and the probe diameter sets the volume, with the 6 mm horn supplied covering 10 to 100 mL. Two costs sit outside the quotation: the jacketed circulating beaker only circulates if you buy a recirculating chiller to feed it, and the catalogue asks that the unit be run through a voltage stabiliser.
