Digital GSM Balance with Built-in Area Camera, 10 g / 210 g

Grammage balance that weighs a paper or fabric sample, measures its area with a built-in camera and reads out mass per square metre directly, including on irregularly shaped offcuts.

Typical applications

  • Grammage of paper, board and packaging materials
  • Fabric weight in textile QC
  • Incoming-goods checks on paper and nonwoven stock
  • Coating add-on by weight per unit area
  • Laboratory weighing up to 210 g

Worth knowing before you order

Grammage is mass divided by area, so the area is half of the measurement and an error in it goes straight into the GSM figure. On the conventional route the area is fixed by cutting the specimen with a circular sample cutter of a defined area - that cutter is a separate item, it is not in the standard accessories here, and a reading taken on a hand-torn piece of unknown area means nothing while a cutter of the wrong area gives a consistently wrong answer. What this model adds is a camera that measures the area itself, so an irregular offcut can be read as long as it is at least 10 cm² and 0.1 g; anything thicker than 3 mm falls outside both modes, and Irregular I and Irregular II must be selected to match the sample thickness. Paper and textiles take up moisture from the air, so a grammage figure is only reproducible on conditioned specimens - the 50-85 % RH row is the range the instrument tolerates, not a conditioning specification. Two weighing ranges are provided, 10 g at 1 mg and 210 g at 10 mg; calibration is external, to a maximum of 200 g, and the weight is not supplied.
