Micro Balance, 6.1 g x 0.001 mg, Touch Screen

Micro balance reading in 0.001 mg steps over a 6.1 g range, with motorised internal calibration and a double windshield, for weighing reference standards and sub-milligram samples.

Typical applications

  • Weighing reference standards and impurity standards
  • Sub-milligram sample preparation for trace analysis
  • Filter and particulate gravimetry
  • Calibration weight checking
  • Research-scale synthesis

Worth knowing before you order

Read the repeatability and the linearity, not the readability. The display steps in 0.001 mg, but repeatability is quoted at 0.004 mg and linearity at ± 0.005 mg, so a single weighing is worth a few micrograms, not one, and the smallest sensible sample weight follows from those two figures rather than from the headline. Siting decides whether the balance ever reaches them: a micro balance stood on an ordinary bench near a door, a gangway, a fume cupboard or an air-conditioning outlet will not, whatever the specification says. It needs a heavy, level, isolated weighing bench and a room held between 18 and 24 °C, which is a narrower band than the 15-30 °C allowed for the analytical balances in this range. An anti-vibration pad and an external antistatic ioniser are supplied with the balance rather than quoted separately, which is worth knowing when comparing prices, but neither substitutes for the room. The pan is 30 mm across, so tall or wide vessels will not go in. The catalogue heads its pages 'an ISO 9001:2015 company'; that is a certificate held by the factory for its management system and says nothing about the weighing performance of this instrument.
