Textiles & Apparel
Fibre, yarn, fabric and garment testing for spinning mills, processing houses and export units — strength, colour fastness, shrinkage and restricted substances.
An export house does not test against a national standard. It tests against whichever manual the buyer works to, and that manual will name either an AATCC method or an ISO one. They are not translations of each other. Colour fastness to washing under AATCC 61 and under ISO 105-C06 use different temperatures, liquor ratios and ball loadings, and a fabric grading 4 on one can grade 3–4 on the other — which is the difference between a shipment and a claim. Crocking is the same story, AATCC 8 against ISO 105-X12. So before quoting a fastness tester we ask which manual you work to: it changes the multifibre strip, the detergent and the reference greyscale as much as it changes the machine.
Tests run here
- Tensile and tear strength of woven fabric
- Bursting strength of knitted fabric
- Colour fastness to washing, rubbing, perspiration and light
- Dimensional change after washing and drying
- Mass per unit area, ends and picks, and fabric thickness
- Yarn count, twist, evenness and single-yarn strength
- Pilling and Martindale abrasion resistance
- Fibre blend composition by chemical dissolution, and pH of aqueous extract
Governed by
- ISO 105 series and AATCC methods for colour fastness
- ISO 13934-1 and ASTM D5034 / D5035 — fabric tensile strength
- ASTM D3786 — diaphragm bursting strength
- ISO 12945 pilling and ISO 12947 Martindale abrasion
- ISO 1833 — quantitative chemical analysis of fibre mixtures
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100, REACH and buyer restricted substance lists
- Textiles Committee, Ministry of Textiles, for export testing
- NABL accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025
- spectroscopy
- physical-properties
