Mechanical testing, spectrometry and metallography for steel plants, re-rolling mills, foundries and forging shops.
A mill runs on its optical emission spectrometer, and the spectrometer runs on two things that never appear on a capital budget: certified reference discs and argon. The reference material has to match the matrix — a carbon steel setting-up sample will not standardise a stainless analysis, and a spectrometer standardised against the wrong matrix reports carbon confidently and wrongly. Argon below the purity the method needs lifts the background and drifts the low-carbon calibration first. Metallography has the same shape of problem one bench along: the etch is the measurement, and nital made up from technical-grade ethanol does not develop a grain boundary the way nital made up from AR ethanol does. Continuity of those consumables is what keeps the heat moving, so we quote them on a standing schedule rather than one drum at a time.
